Northern Pacific  Water Tank
This unusual rectangular tank replaced a larger round tank on a mining and sawmill branch of the NP, south of Tacoma, near Kanaskat, Washington.      This “new” tank was torn down in the 1950s after business died on the branch line due to closure of the mines.

On the very few photo we were able to find of the Northern Pacific water tank at Kanasket, Washington.  Smaller, rectangular tanks such as this were built on logging and short lines, partly due to the easier construction.  This tank was open topped, possible due to the mild winter weather in this part of the world.
