The covered water tank was a common sight along the Canadian railways in the colder areas of the country and its purpose, of course, was to keep the water from freezing. CPR tanks, such as the one on these plans, were usually of 40,000 or 50,000 gallon size while the Canadian National Railway tanks were of 60,000 gallon capacity and, as a result, somewhat larger. The model is based on photos obtained from the web plus information from books. We found that no two of the CPR tanks appear exactly alike and the locations, and types, of the doors and windows can vary widely. |
