Prairie Grain Elevator with Balloon Annex

The grain elevator is the cathedral of the prairies and this plan, based on an abandoned elevator at Dunleath, Saskatchewan, Canada, is typical of these impressive structures. Grain elevators are almost always situated by a standard gauge railroad track and so we selected a scale of 1:29 for the elevator plan in order that it match the scale of the LGB, Aristocraft and USA Trains models of standard gauge trains.

Our plan of the elevator was scaled up from photos that we took while driving through Saskatchewan. It was not possible to physically measure the structure, particularly the height, of course. However, the drawings are scaled up based on an 80 foot height and I feel they are reasonably close to the actual dimensions. They are certainly close enough for all practical purposes, and will make a very impressive model.
