Gunnison 1880 Pioneer Dairy Barn
|
HISTORY: This interesting old 1880 barn sti11 stands in the Pioneer Park Museum in Gunnison, Colorado. Our plans are based on photos and measurements we took while there on a visit in 2009. The barn was originally built as a log structure for the lower part, with board and batten gable ends. Then, some time later in its life, the log barn was completely covered with board and batten siding to eliminate the many leaks, the constant drafts, and the annual chinking of the logs. The modeler may build the barn as the log original, or as clad with board and batten siding in later years. Our plans show the front of the barn with board and batten siding, as it now appears and the back of the barn as it may have looked as a log structure in the late 1800s. It will make a striking model no matter which method you choose. |
